Carpets

Carpets are a hugely popular selection of flooring, especially in areas of the home where comfort is crucial, like living rooms and bedrooms. Carpet identifies a kind of flooring where a material is either woven or tufted to a backing cloth. Carpets come in a large variety of colours and patterns to complement any style of interior decoration, as well as in lots of different kinds of fibre and piles. Some of the more common types of fibre materials include the synthetic fibres polypropylene and nylon, and the natural fibres wool, sisal, or jute. These types of carpet are generally available in short or deep pile and can be manufactured by using a range of manufacturing methods, such as twist, Saxony, loop pile, Berber, cut and loop, or velvet. Carpets can come in patterned, plain or striped designs. All of these various kinds of carpet are rated according to their performance and how well they are suited to different amounts of traffic. They are generally specified to be either medium domestic, meaning bedrooms or studies, heavy domestic, specifying living and dining rooms, and very heavy domestic, suited to utility rooms or hallways. It is always recommended to install carpet with a layer of underlay underneath, as this will increase the appearance of the carpet, as well as increasing its life and providing better sound and thermal insulation.
