Carpets are a very popular selection of flooring, in particular in rooms of the house where comfort is valuable, like living spaces and bedrooms. Carpet identifies a type of flooring in which a material is either woven or tufted to a backing cloth. Carpets can be found in a wide range of colours and styles to accommodate any style of interior decor, as well as in a multitude of different kinds of fibre and piles. A few of the more common types of fibre materials include the synthetic fibres polypropylene and nylon, and the natural fibres wool, sisal, or jute. These types of carpet are usually available in short or deep pile and can be manufactured by using a variety of manufacturing methods, such as twist, Saxony, loop pile, Berber, cut and loop, or velvet. Carpets are available in patterned, plain or striped designs.
All of these various types of carpet are graded according to their performance and how well they are suited to different levels of traffic. They are usually graded to be either medium domestic, meaning bedrooms or studies, heavy domestic, specifying living and dining rooms, and very heavy domestic, suited to utility rooms or hallways. It is always recommended to install carpet with a layer of underlay underneath, as this will increase the look and feel of the carpet, as well as extending its life and providing better sound and thermal insulation.

Newmilns and also Greenholm is a tiny burgh in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It has a population of 3,057 people (2001 census) and pushes the A71, around 7 miles east of Kilmarnock as well as twenty-five miles southwest of Glasgow. It is located in a valley through which the River Irvine runs as well as, with the adjoining communities of Darvel as well as Galston, forms a location known as the Upper Irvine Valley (locally referred to as The Valley). As the name recommends, the burgh exists in two components – Newmilns to the north of the river and also Greenholm to the south. The river likewise separates the parishes of Loudoun and Galston, which is why the burgh, although usually described as Newmilns, has retained both names. Of the mills themselves, bit now stays. The last in operation was Pate’s Mill, which remained on Brown Street opposite the railway station (contemporary Vesuvius building). Renowned in Allan Ramsay’s poem, “The Lass o Pate’s Mill”, it was demolished in 1977 and all that now remains is part of the mill’s outside wall surface. The only mill structure still intact can be located at the foot of Ladeside. Now used as real estate, Loudoun Mill (previously the Meal Mill/ Corn Mill of Newmilns) was in use from 1593 up until it quit generating meal in the 1960s. In 1970, the mill wheel was removed and the lade completed, with the only continuing to be pointer of the site’s former use being a motto, “No Mill, No Meal – JA 1914” inscribed on the outer wall.
