Carpets

Carpets are a hugely popular choice of flooring, in particular in rooms of your home where comfort is important, like living spaces and bedrooms. Carpet refers to a kind of flooring where a material is either woven or tufted to a backing cloth. Carpets come in a huge array of colours and patterns to suit any style of interior decor, as well as in a number of different kinds of fibre and piles. A few of the more popular examples of fibre materials include the synthetic fibres polypropylene and nylon, and the natural fibres wool, sisal, or jute. These kinds of carpet are normally available in short or deep pile and can be produced by employing a range of production methods, such as twist, Saxony, loop pile, Berber, cut and loop, or velvet. Carpets may come in patterned, plain or striped designs. All of these various kinds of carpet are rated according to their performance and how effectively they stand up to different levels of traffic. They are generally rated to be either medium domestic, meaning bedrooms or studies, heavy domestic, specifying living and dining rooms, and very heavy domestic, suitable for utility rooms or hallways. It is always recommended to install carpet with a layer of underlay underneath, as this will enhance the appearance of the carpet, as well as extending its life and providing better sound and thermal insulation.
