Ceramic tiling is a common flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s typically found in these rooms as it is extremely durable and moisture resistant, especially if you opt for glazed ceramic tiles which have a moisture proof melted glass protective coating. This protective coating is immune to stains and dirt, meaning the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them very easy to maintain. Ceramic tile flooring is also relatively inexpensive, and is available in a wide choice of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to imitate the appearance of many alternative flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles continue to be popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added in between the tiles to act as a sealant. Sufficient preparation of the concrete subfloor is vital when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can noticeably decrease the life of your tiles and cause them to split or bend prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which can lead to them feeling cold in winter months, although a favorite solution for this is to add rugs to attain a warmer impression.

Caldicot is a modest town and community within Monmouthshire, southeast Wales. The name ‘Caldicot’ is usually believed to derive from the Old English phrase ‘calde cot’ which means ‘cold hut’. A cold hut is an exposed shelter made use of by either humans or animals. As recorded in population estimates collected in 2014, the town features a permanent population of 11,500. One of the oldest buildings in Caldicot, Llanthony Secunda Manor was built around 1120 as a grange for monks from Llanthony Secunda Priory in Gloucester. By the middle of the 1800s, Caldicot developed into a little farming village. Nevertheless, the building of the South Wales Railway brought London and Cardiff within relatively easy reach, although Caldicot station itself wasn’t finished till 1936. As a result of the industry which was attracted by the railway, Henry Hughes of Tintern built a wireworks next to the railway in 1862, which was soon to come to be the village’s principal employer and attracted many new workers. In 1880, it became a tinplate works for the canning business. A notable landmark in the town is Court House, which was the home of baker Henry Jones, the inventor of self-raising flour, from 1864 till his death in 1891. He’s buried in the churchyard. Caldicot is also most famously known as the location of Caldicot Castle and lake. The area has well-liked footpaths along the Caldicot Levels and the coastal path may be walked. Nearby tourist attractions are Caerwent and Wentwood. To the north west, Dewstow House dates from around 1804. Substantial gardens and grottoes constructed after 1895 have been undergoing renovation since 2000 and are now open for the public.
