Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a widespread flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s commonly found in these rooms as it is very durable and moisture resistant, particularly if you opt for glazed ceramic tiles which feature a moisture proof melted glass protective covering. This protective layer is resilient to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can simply be wiped clean, making them extremely easy to maintain. Ceramic tile flooring is also fairly cheap, and comes in a wide range of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to mimic the look of many different flooring options such as wood or natural stones. Nevertheless, ceramic tiles continue to be popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and finally grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is essential when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the floor can significantly decrease the life of your tiles and cause them to split or bend prematurely. Underlay cannot be used in combination with ceramic floor tiles, which may result in them feeling cold in the winter, although a popular solution to this is to add rugs to achieve a warmer appearance.
