Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a common flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s commonly installed in these rooms as it is very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you use glazed ceramic tiles which have a moisture proof melted glass protective covering. This protective coating is resistant to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them particularly easy to maintain. Ceramic tile flooring is also relatively inexpensive, and is available in a wide variety of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to imitate the look of many other flooring options such as wood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles remain popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and finally grout is added in between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is essential when putting in ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can considerably decrease the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to split or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which may lead to them feeling cool in the winter, although a common remedy for this is to include rugs to achieve a warmer appearance.
