Ceramic tiling is a popular flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s usually installed in these rooms as it is extremely durable and moisture resistant, especially if you opt for glazed ceramic tiles which have a moisture proof melted glass protective layer. This protective covering is immune to stains and dirt, meaning the tiles can simply be wiped clean, making them especially easy to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also relatively cheap, and comes in a wide selection of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to mimic the look of many alternative flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added in between the tiles to act as a sealant. Sufficient preparation of the concrete subfloor is essential when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the floor can considerably decrease the life of your tiles and cause them to crack or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which can lead to them feeling very cold in the winter, although a favorite remedy to this is to include rugs to attain a warmer appearance.
