Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a popular flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s normally used in these rooms as it’s very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you choose glazed ceramic tiles which feature a moisture proof melted glass protective coating. This protective coating is resistant to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can simply be wiped clean, making them especially easy to maintain. Ceramic tile flooring is also fairly inexpensive, and comes in a wide range of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to simulate the appearance of many different flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. However, ceramic tiles remain very popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added in between the tiles to act as a sealant. Adequate preparation of the concrete subfloor is essential when putting in ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can substantially reduce the life of your tiles and cause them to crack or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which may lead to them feeling cold in winter months, although a common remedy for this is to include rugs to achieve a warmer effect.
