Although tiling is more regularly used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very beautiful flooring option. Relatively inexpensive, floor tiling is available in a wide variety of designs and styles and is suited to use in many rooms of your home. Floor tiling is most often suited for bathroom or kitchen floors as it is simple to clean and exceptionally heavy duty, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are typically made from ceramic or porcelain, however they can be purchased in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability.
When installing floor tiling, it is crucial to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also typically requires an additional backing board to be laid on top of the existing floor in order to guarantee a flat finish and to protect the lifespan of your tiles. After this extra board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to adhere the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. The installation of tiles yourself can be a difficult job which could require lots of tile cutting, and any errors can be extremely expensive to correct or even cause damage to your floor, so choose a professional to fit your floor tiling. Professional tiling companies can advise you on the ideal tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of a high standard.
