While tiling is more commonly used to cover bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very beautiful flooring option. Relatively low cost, floor tiling comes in numerous designs and styles and is suited to use in many parts of your home. Floor tiling is generally suited for bathroom or kitchen floors as it is simple to clean and very strong, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are usually made from ceramic or porcelain, however they can be purchased in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability.
When installing floor tiling, it is crucial to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also typically requires an additional backing board to be laid on top of the existing floor to be able to ensure a flat finish and to protect the lifespan of your tiles. After this extra board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to adhere the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. Installing tiles yourself can be a difficult job which can require lots of tile cutting, and any errors can be very costly to correct or even damage your floor, so choose a professional to lay your floor tiling. Experienced tiling companies can advise you on the ideal tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of an exceptional standard.
