Langport is a town as well as civil parish in Somerset, England, 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Somerton in the South Somerset area. The parish (which covers only part of the town) has a population of 1,081. Langport is contiguous with Huish Episcopi, a separate parish that includes much of the town’s borders. Langport lies on the eastern financial institution of the River Parrett, below the factor where that river is signed up with by the River Yeo (Ivel). There is an embankment throughout the moor and also an important bridge over the river. Below Langport the Parrett is tidal. The rivers flow from the southerly hillsides via Thorney Moor and Kings Moor, via a gap in between the upland areas around Somerton and Curry Rivel, onto the Somerset Levels where it streams previous Bridgwater to the Bristol Channel. During the winter months the low-lying areas around Langport are often swamped. The town drops within the Non-metropolitan area of South Somerset, which was formed on 1 April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, having previously become part of Langport Rural District. The district council is in charge of regional preparation as well as structure control, local roads, council housing, ecological health and wellness, markets and also fairs, reject collection and also recycling, burial grounds and also crematoria, recreation solutions, parks, and tourist.
