Carpets

Carpets are an extremely popular preference of flooring, in particular in areas of the home where comfort is important, like living spaces and bedrooms. Carpet designates a type of flooring in which a material is either woven or tufted to a backing cloth. Carpets can be purchased in a wide array of colours and designs to match any style of interior decoration, as well as in many different types of fibre and piles. Some of the more prevalent types of fibre materials include the man-made fibres polypropylene and nylon, and the natural fibres wool, sisal, or jute. These types of carpet are frequently available in short or deep pile and can be produced by using a range of production methods, such as twist, Saxony, loop pile, Berber, cut and loop, or velvet. Carpets may appear in patterned, plain or striped designs. All of these different kinds of carpet are ranked according to their performance and how effectively they are suited to different amounts of traffic. They are typically graded to be either medium domestic, meaning bedrooms or studies, heavy domestic, specifying living and dining rooms, and very heavy domestic, suitable for utility rooms or hallways. It is always recommended to install carpet with a layer of underlay underneath, as this will improve the look and feel of the carpet, as well as increasing its life and delivering better sound and thermal insulation.
