Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a popular flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s usually used in these rooms as it is very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you choose glazed ceramic tiles which feature a moisture proof melted glass protective layer. This protective coating is immune to stains and dirt, meaning the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them especially easy to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also fairly cheap, and is available in a wide range of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to imitate the appearance of many alternative flooring options such as wood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles remain popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and finally grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Adequate preparation of the concrete subfloor is essential when putting in ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the floor can noticeably decrease the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to break or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which may result in them feeling very cold in winter months, although a common solution for this is to include rugs to attain a warmer result.
