Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a popular flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s commonly fitted in these rooms as it’s very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you use glazed ceramic tiles which include a moisture proof melted glass protective covering. This protective layer is resilient to stains and dirt, meaning the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them especially simple to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also reasonably affordable, and comes in a wide selection of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to mimic the look of many different flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles remain very popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and finally grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is essential when putting in ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can substantially decrease the life of your tiles and cause them to split or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used in combination with ceramic floor tiles, which may result in them feeling very cold in winter months, although a favorite solution to this is to include rugs to achieve a warmer effect.
