Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a popular flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s frequently fitted in these rooms as it is extremely durable and moisture resistant, especially if you use glazed ceramic tiles which have a moisture proof melted glass protective covering. This protective covering is resistant to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them especially easy to maintain. Ceramic tile flooring is also fairly cheap, and comes in a huge choice of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to simulate the appearance of many other flooring options such as wood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles continue to be very popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added in between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is crucial when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can dramatically decrease the life of your tiles and cause them to crack or bend prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which may lead to them feeling very cold in the winter, although a popular solution to this is to include rugs to achieve a warmer appearance.
