Ceramic tiling is a popular flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s often used in these rooms as it is very durable and moisture resistant, particularly if you use glazed ceramic tiles which feature a moisture proof melted glass protective coating. This protective layer is resilient to stains and dirt, meaning the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them very easy to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also comparatively affordable, and comes in a huge choice of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to imitate the appearance of many alternative flooring options such as wood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles continue to be popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss.
Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added in between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is vital when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the floor can drastically reduce the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to break or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used in combination with ceramic floor tiles, which may lead to them feeling very cold in the winter, although a favorite remedy to this is to include rugs to attain a warmer impression.
