Although tiling is more frequently used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very appealing flooring option. Relatively inexpensive, floor tiling comes in numerous designs and styles and is ideal for use in many parts of your home. Floor tiling is usually used on bathroom or kitchen floors as it is simple to clean and very hard-wearing, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are generally manufactured from ceramic or porcelain, but they can be purchased in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability.
When installing floor tiling, it is crucial to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also usually requires an extra backing board to be laid on top of the pre-existing floor so as to ensure a flat finish and to maintain the lifespan of your tiles. After this additional board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to stick the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. The installation of tiles yourself can be a difficult job which may require lots of tile cutting, and any mistakes can be extremely costly to correct or even cause damage to your floor, so choose an expert to fit your floor tiling. Professional tiling companies can suggest for you the perfect tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of a high standard.
