Although tiling is more regularly used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very attractive flooring option. Relatively affordable, floor tiling is available in a wide variety of designs and styles and is suitable for use in many parts of your home. Floor tiling is frequently suited for bathroom or kitchen floors as it is simple to clean and highly hard-wearing, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles tend to be made from ceramic or porcelain, however they can be purchased in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability.
When installing floor tiling, it is crucial to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also typically requires an extra backing board to be laid on top of the pre-existing floor to be able to guarantee a flat finish and to preserve the lifespan of your tiles. After this additional board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to stick the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. Installing tiles yourself can be a difficult job which could require lots of tile cutting, and any mistakes can be very expensive to rectify or even cause damage to your floor, so choose an expert to fit your floor tiling. Specialist tiling companies can advise you on the perfect tile to use for your room, and guarantee the fitting is of a superior standard.
