Although tiling is more generally used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very attractive flooring option. Relatively low cost, floor tiling is available in a wide variety of designs and styles and is well suited for use in many rooms of your home. Floor tiling is most often suited for bathroom or kitchen floors as it is easy to clean and highly durable, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are generally produced from ceramic or porcelain, but they can be purchased in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability. When installing floor tiling, it is very important to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also usually requires an extra backing board to be laid on top of the pre-existing floor in order to guarantee a flat finish and to protect the lifespan of your tiles. After this additional board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to stick the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. The installation of tiles yourself can be a difficult job which may require lots of tile cutting, and any mistakes can be extremely costly to correct or even damage your floor, so choose an expert to lay your floor tiling. Experienced tiling companies can advise you on the ideal tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of a superior standard.
