Flooring Renovation

Renovating floors may involve a wide range of tasks, from cleaning and maintenance, repairing existing flooring or even completely removing and replacing flooring. The type of renovation work will depend upon the type of the pre-existing flooring. In older buildings with period floors like flagstone, quarry tile or parquet, renovation will usually involve repair and cleaning of the existing floor as it will likely be an attractive feature of the house. In contemporary homes with carpet or wood floors, restoration is more likely to involve completely exchanging the current floors, either like for like employing a similar material, or by changing from one material to another. For wooden floors, the approach of renovation commonly consists of sanding the top layer of real wood down, cleaning and then revarnishing or staining. Tile floors can be cleaned and any broken or damaged tiles swapped out, accompanied by regrouting or resealing. For carpets, maintenance can usually only extend to cleaning of the pile, any further problems or damage will generally require replacing the carpet. Specialist tools might also be required for repairing or replacing flooring.
