Ceramic tiling is a common flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s frequently used in these rooms as it’s very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you use glazed ceramic tiles which have a moisture proof melted glass protective covering. This protective coating is immune to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can simply be wiped clean, making them extremely simple to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also relatively inexpensive, and comes in a huge variety of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to simulate the look of many different flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. Nevertheless, ceramic tiles continue to be very popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss.
Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Sufficient preparation of the concrete subfloor is critical when putting in ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can considerably decrease the life of your tiles and cause them to break or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used in combination with ceramic floor tiles, which may result in them feeling cold in the winter, although a common solution for this is to include rugs to accomplish a warmer result.
