Ceramic tiling is a widespread flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s usually found in these rooms as it’s very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you use glazed ceramic tiles which have a moisture proof melted glass protective coating. This protective layer is resistant to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them especially simple to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also reasonably affordable, and is available in a wide range of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to imitate the look of many alternative flooring options such as wood or natural stones. However, ceramic tiles remain very popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss.
Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and finally grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Sufficient preparation of the concrete subfloor is vital when putting in ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can noticeably decrease the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to break or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which may result in them feeling very cold in winter months, although a favorite remedy for this is to add rugs to achieve a warmer impression.
