Ceramic tiling is a popular flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s typically fitted in these rooms as it is extremely durable and moisture resistant, particularly if you opt for glazed ceramic tiles which feature a moisture proof melted glass protective covering. This protective layer is immune to stains and dirt, meaning the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them very simple to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also comparatively inexpensive, and is available in a huge selection of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to mimic the appearance of many alternative flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles remain extremely popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added in between the tiles to act as a sealant. Adequate preparation of the concrete subfloor is vital when putting in ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the floor can significantly decrease the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to crack or bend prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which may lead to them feeling cool in the winter, although a favorite remedy to this is to include rugs to achieve a warmer appearance.
