Ceramic tiling is a common flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s generally found in these rooms as it’s very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you use glazed ceramic tiles which include a moisture proof melted glass protective coating. This protective covering is immune to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can simply be wiped clean, making them very easy to maintain. Ceramic tile flooring is also fairly cheap, and comes in a wide range of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to simulate the appearance of many other flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles remain extremely popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and finally grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is crucial when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can considerably reduce the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to break or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used in combination with ceramic floor tiles, which may lead to them feeling cold in winter months, although a favorite solution for this is to include rugs to accomplish a warmer result.
