Although tiling is more commonly used to cover bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very beautiful flooring option. Relatively affordable, floor tiling is available in numerous designs and styles and is suited to use in many rooms of your home. Floor tiling is usually used on bathroom or kitchen floors as it is simple to clean and exceptionally tough, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are normally produced from ceramic or porcelain, however they are available in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability. When installing floor tiling, it is very important to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also usually needs an extra backing board to be laid on top of the pre-existing floor so as to guarantee a flat finish and to preserve the lifespan of your tiles. After this additional board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to stick the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. Laying tiles yourself can be a difficult job which might require lots of tile cutting, and any errors can be very costly to rectify or even cause damage to your floor, so choose a specialist to fit your floor tiling. Experienced tiling companies can advise you on the ideal tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of a superior standard.
