Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a popular flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s frequently found in these rooms as it’s very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you use glazed ceramic tiles which have a moisture proof melted glass protective layer. This protective coating is resistant to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can simply be wiped clean, making them particularly easy to maintain. Ceramic tile flooring is also relatively affordable, and comes in a wide variety of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to imitate the look of many alternative flooring options such as wood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles remain very popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and finally grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is critical when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can drastically reduce the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to split or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which can result in them feeling cold in the winter, although a common remedy for this is to add rugs to achieve a warmer effect.
