Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a common flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s normally installed in these rooms as it’s very durable and moisture resistant, particularly if you opt for glazed ceramic tiles which include a moisture proof melted glass protective coating. This protective covering is resilient to stains and dirt, meaning the tiles can simply be wiped clean, making them extremely easy to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also relatively inexpensive, and is available in a wide selection of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to imitate the look of many other flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. Even so, ceramic tiles remain very popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and finally grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is essential when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the ground can significantly reduce the life of your tiles and cause them to break or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used with ceramic floor tiles, which can result in them feeling cold in winter months, although a popular solution to this is to include rugs to achieve a warmer effect.
