Although tiling is more commonly used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very appealing flooring option. Relatively affordable, floor tiling comes in a multitude of designs and styles and is suitable for use in many areas of your home. Floor tiling is frequently used on bathroom or kitchen floors as it is easy to clean and very sturdy, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are generally made from ceramic or porcelain, but they can be purchased in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability.
When installing floor tiling, it is crucial to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also generally requires an additional backing board to be laid on top of the existing floor to be able to ensure a flat finish and to preserve the lifespan of your tiles. After this extra board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to stick the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. Laying tiles yourself can be a difficult job which could require lots of tile cutting, and any mistakes can be extremely costly to rectify or even cause damage to your floor, so choose a specialist to fit your floor tiling. Experienced tiling companies can advise you on the ideal tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of an exceptional standard.
