Although tiling is more generally used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very attractive flooring option. Relatively cheap, floor tiling is available in a wide variety of designs and styles and is suitable for use in many areas of your home. Floor tiling is usually used on bathroom or kitchen floors as it is easy to clean and extremely heavy duty, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are generally produced from ceramic or porcelain, but they can be purchased in many other choices of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability. When installing floor tiling, it is critical to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also usually needs an additional backing board to be laid on top of the current floor so as to guarantee a flat finish and to protect the lifespan of your tiles. After this additional board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to adhere the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. The installation of tiles yourself can be a difficult job which may require lots of tile cutting, and any errors can be very expensive to rectify or even cause damage to your floor, so choose a professional to lay your floor tiling. Professional tiling companies can advise you on the perfect tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of a superior standard.
