While tiling is more frequently used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very beautiful flooring option. Relatively low cost, floor tiling is available in a wide variety of designs and styles and is appropriate for use in many parts of your home. Floor tiling is usually used on bathroom or kitchen floors as it is simple to clean and extremely hard-wearing, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are generally made from ceramic or porcelain, however they are available in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability. When installing floor tiling, it is very important to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also often requires an extra backing board to be laid on top of the current floor to be able to ensure a flat finish and to preserve the lifespan of your tiles. After this extra board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to adhere the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. Fitting tiles yourself can be a difficult job which could require lots of tile cutting, and any errors can be very expensive to correct or even damage your floor, so choose a professional to lay your floor tiling. Professional tiling companies can inform you on the ideal tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of a superior standard.
