While tiling is more regularly used to cover bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very appealing flooring option. Relatively cheap, floor tiling comes in a wide variety of designs and styles and is ideal for use in many areas of your home. Floor tiling is frequently suited for bathroom or kitchen floors as it is simple to clean and very durable, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles tend to be manufactured from ceramic or porcelain, however they are available in many other options of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability. When installing floor tiling, it is essential to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also often needs an additional backing board to be laid on top of the pre-existing floor in order to guarantee a flat finish and to preserve the lifespan of your tiles. After this additional board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to stick the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. Fitting tiles yourself can be a difficult job which may require lots of tile cutting, and any mistakes can be extremely expensive to correct or even cause damage to your floor, so choose an expert to install your floor tiling. Specialist tiling companies can suggest for you the perfect tile to use for your room, and guarantee the fitting is of a high standard.
