Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a widespread flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s often found in these rooms as it is very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you opt for glazed ceramic tiles which have a moisture proof melted glass protective coating. This protective layer is immune to stains and dirt, meaning the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them extremely simple to care for. Ceramic tile flooring is also relatively inexpensive, and comes in a huge selection of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to simulate the appearance of many other flooring options such as wood or natural stones. Nevertheless, ceramic tiles continue to be popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Sufficient preparation of the concrete subfloor is critical when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the floor can considerably reduce the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to split or warp prematurely. Underlay cannot be used in combination with ceramic floor tiles, which may lead to them feeling cold in the winter, although a popular remedy for this is to add rugs to accomplish a warmer effect.
