Ceramic Tile Flooring

Ceramic tiling is a widespread flooring option in kitchens or bathrooms. It’s often fitted in these rooms as it’s very durable and moisture resistant, especially if you opt for glazed ceramic tiles which feature a moisture proof melted glass protective layer. This protective coating is resilient to stains and dirt, which means the tiles can merely be wiped clean, making them extremely simple to maintain. Ceramic tile flooring is also fairly affordable, and is available in a wide choice of designs as they can be printed in patterns or to mimic the appearance of many other flooring options such as hardwood or natural stones. However, ceramic tiles remain very popular in traditional designs such as terracotta or dark gloss. Ceramic floor tiling is installed directly onto a concrete or backing board subfloor with a layer of mortar as adhesive and lastly grout is added between the tiles to act as a sealant. Proper preparation of the concrete subfloor is critical when installing ceramic tiles, as any bumps or ridges in the floor can dramatically decrease the lifespan of your tiles and cause them to break or bend prematurely. Underlay cannot be used in combination with ceramic floor tiles, which can lead to them feeling cold in the winter, although a popular solution for this is to add rugs to achieve a warmer result.
