While tiling is more frequently used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very attractive flooring option. Relatively cheap, floor tiling is available in a wide variety of designs and styles and is appropriate for use in many areas of your home. Floor tiling is generally applied to bathroom or kitchen floors as it is simple to clean and highly long lasting, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles tend to be produced from ceramic or porcelain, however they are available in many other choices of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability.
When installing floor tiling, it is vital to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also often requires an additional backing board to be laid on top of the present floor in order to ensure a flat finish and to preserve the lifespan of your tiles. After this extra board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to adhere the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. Fitting tiles yourself can be a difficult job which might require lots of tile cutting, and any errors can be extremely expensive to correct or even cause damage to your floor, so choose an expert to lay your floor tiling. Professional tiling companies can advise you on the ideal tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of a high standard.
