Although tiling is more frequently used to protect bathroom and kitchen walls, it can be a very beautiful flooring option. Relatively inexpensive, floor tiling comes in a multitude of designs and styles and is suited to use in many parts of your home. Floor tiling is most often used on bathroom or kitchen floors as it is easy to clean and extremely heavy duty, as well as being moisture proof. Floor tiles are typically manufactured from ceramic or porcelain, but they are available in many other choices of material such as slate, marble and limestone, each of which will have a different appearance and durability.
When installing floor tiling, it is critical to ensure that the base surface is as clean and level as possible. Tiling also typically needs an additional backing board to be laid on top of the present floor in order to ensure a flat finish and to maintain the lifespan of your tiles. After this additional board is installed, a layer of mortar is used to stick the tiles down, and then the gaps in between are filled with grout to seal the tiles against moisture. Installing tiles yourself can be a difficult job which may require lots of tile cutting, and any errors can be very expensive to correct or even damage your floor, so choose a professional to install your floor tiling. Specialist tiling companies can inform you on the ideal tile to use for your room, and ensure the fitting is of a high standard.
